πŸ“š Top 5 Book Series I Read (or Am Reading) in 2025 — And Why You Should Too

There’s something magical about finding a series that pulls you in and refuses to let go — especially when it’s filled with dragons, romance, war, and powerful female leads. This year, I fell headfirst into some incredible fantasy and fantasy-romance series that deserve all the hype they’re getting (and more). Here's a breakdown of the top 5 book series that lived rent-free in my head this year:

Fourth wing book

1. πŸ‰ The Fourth Wing Series by Rebecca Yarros

“I would rather lose this war with you than win it with anyone else.”

This series exploded onto the scene with Fourth Wing, and if you're even mildly into dragons, battle training, or enemies-to-lovers tension, you probably know why.

  • Dragon bonding scenes that gave me chills
  • A strong, vulnerable, and witty heroine (hi Violet!)
  • Romantic tension that practically sizzles off the page
  • A war academy setting with actual consequences

This series had me emotionally unprepared, in the best way. I’m already counting down to the next book.

From blood and ash book

2. πŸ”₯ From Blood and Ash & the Flesh and Fire Prequel Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout

“We’re not defined by what we are but by who we are.”

Is it even a fantasy book roundup without Poppy and Casteel?

  • High-stakes secrets, betrayals, and jaw-dropping plot twists
  • Steamy slow burns that evolve into epic romances
  • A world of gods, vampires (Atlantians!), and ancient magic
  • Deep connections between characters across both timelines

The prequel series (Flesh and Fire) adds so much to the lore. If you’re new to this universe, brace yourself — it's intense and highly addictive.

Quicksilver book

3. πŸ’” Quicksilver by Callie Hart

“I wanted to be his light, but I was darkness, too.”

This book completely wrecked me — in the best way. Quicksilver is raw, romantic, painful, and incredibly beautiful. It’s dark romance with soul and substance.

  • Intense, slow-burn romance with serious emotional stakes
  • Complex, haunted characters who feel incredibly real
  • Gritty themes like trauma, survival, and redemption
  • Callie Hart’s writing is lyrical, sharp, and totally immersive

If you're into tortured love stories, morally gray heroes, and pain that somehow heals, this book delivers in spades.

Throne of glass series

4. πŸ—‘️ Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas

“You could rattle the stars. You could do anything, if only you dared.”

Yes, I finally read it this year — and wow. Just wow.

  • Assassin-turned-queen storyline that’s as fierce as it is heartbreaking
  • Complex character arcs and redemption arcs galore
  • Epic battles, heartbreaks, and plot twists I did not see coming
  • Sarah J. Maas's signature world-building (and romantic tension, of course)

By the time I hit Queen of Shadows, I was fully in love with this world. And the finale? I needed therapy (in the best way).

Crescent city series

5. 🌌 Crescent City Series by Sarah J. Maas

“Through love, all is possible.”

I had to read this one slowly just to absorb everything. House of Earth and Blood was intense, but House of Sky and Breath left me speechless.

  • Urban fantasy meets high fantasy in a modern world
  • Smart, messy, strong female protagonist
  • The ending of Book 2 literally shattered the internet (and my soul)
  • Complex politics, found family, and magic systems that feel fresh

This is the kind of series you don’t just read — you experience. If you’re a SJM fan, this one is peak brilliance.

✨ Final Thoughts

2025 has been a year of epic escapism, and these five series have completely taken over my reading life — in the best way possible. Whether you're in it for the swoon-worthy slow burns, strong heroines, dragons, or gods, there’s something here for every fantasy lover.

Have you read any of these? What should I pick up next?
